Capsule Geology

The Alpha occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1040 metres on a gentle south-southwest–trending ridge, approximately 10.5 kilometres north of the north end of Salmon Lake.

The area is underlain by calc-alkaline volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Witch Lake Formation (Takla Group), which have been intruded by Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic dioritic rocks.

Locally, a chlorite-altered andesite hosts pyrite and trace chalcopyrite.

In 1987, a rock sample (JR-001) assayed 0.102 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 17216).

In 1994, a sample (G9426904R) assayed 0.165 gram per tonne gold and 0.225 per cent copper (Assessment Report 23914).

Work History

In 1987, the Alpha claims were staked by E.S. Peters. Later in the year, a program of prospecting and soil, silt and rock geochemical sampling was completed under the supervision of John Poloni.

During 1989 through 1991, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (biogeochemical, rock and soil) sampling, ground magnetic and induced polarization surveys and airborne geophysical surveys on the area.

In 1994, the Alpha claims lapsed and were re-staked in part by Hudson Bay Exploration & Development Co. Ltd as the Sam claims and in part by Talisman Silver Corporation as the Gut claims. Hudson Bay conducted prospecting traverses and collected a few rock samples for analysis. Talisman completed a program of geological mapping in areas of copper plus gold soil anomalies identified by Noranda.

In 2007, the area was held by Orestone Mining Corp as the Captain property. Refer to the Windy (MINFILE 093J 024) for a common ownership and exploration history since 2007.

In 2019, C.J. Greig and Associates completed a 760.0 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Milly property.
